What Union Coffee Tastes Like

Union's range returns again and again to the same comforting territory — dark chocolate, toffee and vanilla at the centre, with caramel rounding the edges and just enough citrus to keep things alive.

About Union

Union Hand Roasted Coffee in my mind must be one of the more recognisable specialty coffee roasters around today.  Union has been roasting coffee since 2001, when the founders Steven and Jeremy moved from San Fransico to London.  Today, Union supplies gourmet coffee to many businesses including coffee shops, restaurants and supermarkets.  I've even found them on the shelves of my local convenience store on Roman Road.

Subscriptions and Fair Trade

Along with many other coffee roasters, Union have a subsription service the CoffeeClub where you'll receive their coffee right to your door.  Union are also proud to support their suppliers and ensure they pay a fair price under what they call Union Direct Trade.

Coffee Varieties

Union have a large range of roasts and at the time of writing this currently offer 29 different coffees.  One of my personal favourites would be their 'Revelation' coffee which is a dark roast ideal for brewing espressos. 'Natural Spirit' being a medium roast is great for a coffee fix at any time of the day.

Union Hand Roasted coffee: Craft Roasting

Union's range sits comfortably across both ends of the spectrum — chocolatey, toffee-driven blends with grounding caramel warmth on one side, and brighter single origins carrying citrus, red berry, and tropical fruit on the other. The darker, richer end tends toward treacle, dark chocolate, and baking spice, while their lighter offerings lean into tangerine, redcurrant, and stone fruit with real clarity. It's a broad palette, reliably executed, and well suited to drinkers who want recognisable, well-defined flavour without straying into the experimental.
